10 best Monkey Pokémon with all details:

Mankey

Let's start with the Gen 1 Fighting-type monkey Pokemon - Mankey. It may be based on a few real-life monkeys, such as New World monkeys and Japanese macaques. Mankey is quite an angry Pokemon, and it doesn’t need a lot to start rampaging. And when one Mankey rampages, the entire colony gets mad as well! In its angry mode, it'll start shaking, and its breathing will sound rough. But the Pokedex notes that Mankey can live a long life due to how it releases stress.

Primeape

Starting at level 28, Mankey can evolve into Primeape. Even short eye contact can make it fly into a fit of rage. According to the Pokedex, this intense rage has its pros and cons. Primeape can transform its anger into energy, which it can use in battle. Unfortunately, it can also die from getting too angry.

Aipom

Let’s take a break from all that anger and go to the cute and cuddly monkey side. Here’s Aipom, the Normal-type “Long Tail Pokemon” from Gen 2. Aipom uses its long hand-like tail a lot for swinging from tree to tree, suspending itself in the air, and delicately picking up fruit. But because of how much use its tail gets, its hands can be quite clumsy.

Slaking

Let’s take it easy with our next ape Pokemon. Here’s Slaking, a Normal-type Pokemon from Gen 3. Slaking is the final evolution of Slakoth and Vigoroth. Although those two were based on sloths, Slaking became a mix of sloths and gorillas. It’s even considered the laziest Pokemon in the world. But its lolling around isn’t for nothing. Slaking gathers its energy while resting and then releases all that built-up power in one strong attack!

Chimchar

Chimchar is the sizzling monkey starter Pokemon of Gen 4. This fire monkey Pokemon has a flame on its rear end, which is connected to its gas-producing stomach. Its name is a creative combination of chimpanzee and char, and it's perfect for this Pokemon as it's said to be a great climber living in rocky mountains.

Monferno

When Chimchar evolves, it becomes the Fire/Fighting Pokemon known as Monferno. Its dual typing might be a reference to Monkey Kung Fu. Monferno is great at aerial attacks and leaping from ceilings and walls to launch hits with its arms and tail. Its tail is all fiery now, and it can control the flame in its tail to signify its importance in the pack. If a Monferno is someone important in the group, it lets its tail fire grow higher and brighter.

Infernape

Infernape is the final evolution of Chimchar and Monferno, and it's a fiery "Flame Pokemon." It continues the Fire/Fighting dual typing and Monkey Kung Fu reference of Monferno. Infernape's agile movements and attacks look like the graceful and dance-like movements of martial arts! Its stats show that it's a speedy and powerful Pokemon.

Ambipom

When Aipom evolves, it becomes Ambipom, which now has two tail-hands! This dual tail concept comes from the prehensile tails of real-life monkeys. These tails can grasp branches, food, and other objects. Ambipom uses its two dextrous tails to its advantage and barely uses its own hands anymore. A group of Ambipom can gather together and hold tail-hands with each other, showing affection and care towards each other.

Pansage

The grass monkey Pokemon from Gen 5 is Pansage. It has broccoli-like sprouts on top of its head to show its grass typing, and these sprouts can remove stress and weariness when eaten. Pansage is known for its caring nature, as it won't hesitate to offer its sprouts to any tired Pokemon. It even shares its foraged berries!

Simisage

Simisage is a green monkey Pokemon that evolves from Pansage when given a Leaf Stone. It has an intense attitude and full-on shrubbery around its body, with its hair looking like a leafy pompadour. It won’t hesitate to dish out its whip-like tail that is riddled with thorns and barbs, which can get violent at the drop of a hat!

Pansear

Pansear is a fire monkey Pokemon that evolves from Pansage when given a Fire Stone. It has a fluffy fire-shaped tuft on its head that can actually heat up and reach temperatures of 600 degrees Fahrenheit or 315 degrees Celsius. Due to its pure Fire typing, Pansear likes to live near volcanoes, particularly in nearby caves.

Simisear

Simisear is the evolved form of Pansear when given a Fire Stone. Its body has bigger tufts of smoke-like and fire-like fur, particularly on its head, shoulders, and tail. These tufts can spread embers and bits of fire when shaken. Deep inside Simisear is a fire that constantly burns, which fuels its Fire type attacks. It has a unique taste for sweets, which fuels its internal fire.

Panpour

Panpour is a water monkey Pokemon that evolves from Pansage when given a Water Stone. Its head tuft is actually filled with water that becomes very nutritious, and plants watered by it will grow big and healthy. Panpour uses its tail to spray water on plants or on itself, keeping its body damp and moisturized since it can't thrive being dry.

Simipour

Simipour is the evolved form of Panpour when given a Water Stone. Its water-filled hair tufts now cascade down to its face in nice wavy curls. Its tail also gets an upgrade and now acts like a powerful water hose. If it wants to fight, it can blast a strong, high-pressure stream of water with it. Simipour might look chill and easygoing, but it's best not to test its tail!

Darmanitan

What do you get when you combine a Daruma doll with a gorilla? You get a Darmanitan!

Darmanitan is the evolution of Darumaka. It has other forms, like Zen Mode and a Galarian ice version. This one is Darmanitan’s Standard Mode, which is a pure Fire type.

In Japanese culture, Daruma dolls are said to bring good luck. At the end of the year, the dolls are returned to the temple it was purchased from, thanked for the luck they brought, and then burned.

The designer for Darmanitan witnessed a Daruma burning ceremony with gorilla-looking Daruma dolls. Thus, Darmanitan Standard Mode was born!

Oranguru

Oranguru smiling
Sharing its wisdom to all, here’s Gen 7’s Normal/Psychic ape Pokemon – Oranguru!

Oranguru’s name is a fusion of orangutan and guru and is appropriately categorized as the “Sage Pokemon” due to its intelligence and mentor-like tendencies.

It prefers to be alone in the forest so it can meditate. However, if it sees anyone in need of food or aid, it won’t hesitate to help!

As a testament to its wisdom, Oranguru actually knows how to use some human tools and would go to the beach to debate with Slowking.

Now that’s a debate to watch!

Passimian

If Oranguru is the brains, this one’s the brawn! Up next is Passimian, a Fighting type monkey Pokemon.

Passimian is considered the counterpart of Oranguru, and the two are quite opposites in a lot of ways. If Oranguru prefers to be alone, Passimian is always in a troop of 20 to 30 members!

Just as its name suggests, Passimian likes to pass fruits around to confuse enemies. They attack by throwing berries – hard fruit to hurt and soft berries to splat and blind – and then catch enemies off-guard by passing fruit among themselves.

The leader is usually the one who can throw things the farthest. Go long, Passimian!

Thwackey

What’s better than one stick? Why, two sticks, of course! And Thwackey’s here to prove it.

Thwackey is the second evolution of the Grookey evolution line. The leaf tufts on Grookey’s head are now longer and held in a bun by two sticks.

When Thwackey needs to drum, it pulls the two sticks from its head, which reveals its mohawk-like leaves. Thwackey then goes to town with drumming!

Sometimes it gets so caught up with drumming that it doesn’t immediately notice that it has knocked its opponents out with its beats. Continue the rock and roll life, Thwackey!

Rillaboom

With its lush leafy locks and a beat that goes wild, the final evolution of Grookey and Thwackey is here for its epic (ape-pic?) drum solo!

Rillaboom is an ape Pokemon that resembles a gorilla. Its pure Grass typing shows through its bushy and vine-like hair and fondness for using wooden drums.

Yep, it carries its drum on its back everywhere. This drum is made using a special tree stump that can amplify Rillaboom’s Grass type powers. A Rillaboom who drums the best usually gets picked to be the troop’s leader.

Perhaps it’s due to its musicality, but Rillaboom highly prioritizes harmony in a group. That’s the kind of leadership that’s music to anyone’s ears!

Zarude

Gen 8’s not done with its monkey Pokemon yet! Revealed during Pokemon Day 2020, this Dark/Grass Mythical Pokemon shows us its dual wild and tender sides!

Zarude shows its Dark/Grass capabilities by extending vines from its wrists, neck, and feet.

These vines can be used for attacking, swinging from tree to tree, and even healing. When its vines wrap around trees it absorbs power, and around wounds it cures them.

A special Zarude called Dada was featured in the Pokemon movie Secrets of the Jungle.

In it, Dada raised an orphaned human child. Even though Zarude usually gets aggressive against outsiders, Dada developed a special bond with the child instead.

Grafaiai: The Poisonous Artist

Get ready to meet the Michelangelo among monkey Pokemon, but don't be fooled by its artistic skills! Grafaiai is a Poison/Normal monkey Pokemon from Gen 9. Its name is a combination of graffiti and the primate aye-aye. This Pokemon has black fur that looks like a hoodie and colorful fingers that resemble spray paint, giving it the image of a young graffiti artist.

However, what's unique about Grafaiai is its colorful but poisonous saliva that it spreads around trees at night to signal its territory to other Pokemon. It can also use its saliva to mesmerize and trap its prey. Its "art" is not just mesmerizing, but also dangerous as the poison can immobilize you upon contact. Be careful!

Annihilape: The Angry Ghost

If you thought Mankey and Primeape were intense, wait until you meet Annihilape! This angry Fighting/Ghost type Pokemon is the evolution of Primeape after using the move Rage Fist 20 times. The lore behind this transformation is due to uncontrollable anger - Primeape's body literally can't contain its rage anymore!

As Annihilape, it uses its rage to power up its punches. Despite turning into a ghost, its anger is still uncontainable. If you come across this Pokemon, be prepared to face its wrath!
